The RAM 2500’s standard engine is a very capable 6.4L V8 that puts out 410 horsepower. The 3500 can also be purchased with the same HEMI engine and of course, equal horsepower. When you move over to the diesel engines, the 2500 has one offering, being a 6.7L Cummings Turbo Diesel 16 engine that tops out at 370 horsepower. The 3500 has two options on the diesel side. Buyers can select the same 6.7L Turbo Diesel or a High-Output 6.7L Cummings Turbo Diesel. When you take the top-of-the-line diesel, you are rewarded with an increase in horsepower to an impressive 420.Putting The RAMs To Work
The horsepower of a truck is not about speed in the quarter mile like a quarter horse. Trucks what the power that you find in a Clydesdale. You need your truck to pull and haul some impressive amounts. The 2500 tows 17,540 pounds and can handle an additional payload of 4,010 pounds when it sports the V8 HEMI. In the 3500, the V8 adds nearly 700 pounds to make the towing capacity 18,210. But the exciting increase is the payload that tips in at 7,680 pounds. The RAM 2500s towing capacity heads up to 19,680 pounds, with an added payload of 3,160 pounds when equipped with the 6.7L diesel engine. The 3500 provides much more payload capacity a 6,840 pounds with the same engine and has a towing capacity of 22,670 pounds. But the game changer is the addition of the high-output diesel engine in the 3500. That take comes with the selection of the towing capacity all the way to 37,000 pounds or 18.5 tons.
